In a continued show of international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict, the United States has announced a new defense assistance package worth $330 million. This move highlights a consistent effort to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities during a time of persistent military pressure.
At the core of this package are two major components: the modernization of artillery systems and the enhancement of air defense capabilities. The U.S. will provide Ukraine with upgraded equipment and services for the maintenance of M109 self-propelled howitzers, with $150 million allocated for this purpose. These artillery units play a critical role on the battlefield, offering essential fire support and increasing the operational resilience of Ukraine’s ground forces.
The second portion of the aid—worth $180 million—is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. Given the rising threats from missile strikes and drone attacks, this investment will enable Ukraine to more effectively protect its airspace, critical infrastructure, and civilian population.
Supplies and technical work will be carried out by both American contractors—including Sierra Nevada Corporation and V2X—and Ukrainian partners. This joint involvement underscores a deepening collaboration in defense initiatives between the two nations.
This latest package follows closely on the heels of another deal approved on July 23, when the U.S. authorized $322 million in support services for Ukraine’s HAWK air defense systems and Bradley fighting vehicles.
